Hi everyone! I’m back and this time with 10 creative ideas that you can test out while you are stuck at home. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Pretty Watercolour Paintings // A painted envelope from a friend

Hello! I’m back for a quick post to show you the creative efforts of–no, not me–my sister and my best friend, who are two lovely artists. These first photos are by my sister Ruth, and they are pen and watercolour on watercolour paper.

It’s not perfect (no one will tell you that more than Ruth, haha!), but don’t you just love it’s pretty simplicity? It captures the imagination.

She likes this one a little better, but I actually like the first one best. But I think this one technically has less mistakes. ๐Ÿ™‚

And now–this the envelope of a lovely letter I received today, from my best friend. Isn’t it so pretty?? (The colour blocks are to keep our addresses private.)

Speaking of painted envelopes and letter writing, I just recently read this wonderful blog post with lots of inspirational ideas that I intend to implement with my next letter.

Well, that’s all for today! Hopefully I’ll have more soon… ๐Ÿ™‚

What are your favourite things to do with your letters? Do you prefer watercolours, acrylics, or oil paints?

Yours truly,

Magaidh

Tolkien 2019

Yes, it’s true. I have stooped so low as to tell you that I am really looking forward to a movie. BUT I AM! Tolkien is coming out today, and I can’t wait to see it! (Tolkien is my favourite author, btw…) No, I’m not going to see it today ๐Ÿ˜ฆ …but I’m will be sure to write it a highly prejudiced review when I do see it! And hey–if you see it before me, let me know how it was! Only…don’t spoil it. ๐Ÿ˜€

Be sure to check out the trailer below! I’ve already watched it a gazillion times…

Love,

Elizabeth

Check out my poems based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s works! And in honour of the movie, for a limited time, you can download the pdf below. ๐Ÿ˜€

Changes Coming in 2019

Hello Everyone!

I hope you had a wonderful day yesterday! I got a sewing machine (yay!) What was your favourite present that you received or gave?

Well, the new year is approaching startlingly fast! With it are coming some awesome changes on The Nightingale! Firstly, I finally own my own domain, so pretty soon here my URL will be http://www.therealnightingale.com. Looks nice doesn’t it? It’s so nice to finally have that after what…five years? My, but this blog has been through a lot of changes! Do any of you remember when it was still “Blue Eyed Magi”? And then there was that very brief period where it was “Maeflower”.

So the other change that you’ll see soon is that I will probably be changing my theme again. Okay–I know that isn’t really anything new. I probably change my theme on average every two months… But I’m going to be using one of the paid WordPress plans now, so I think I’ll be able to make the blog even more beautiful than before. I know what you’re thinking; “How could it possibly be any more beautiful than it is now??!!!” Well it can.

Just kidding.

One more thing you’ll see different: my name. Elizabeth Baillie is actually a pen name! In 2019 I’ll be using my real name, just in it’s Gaelic form. So that should be interesting…for you, anyway.

Well, I hope you’re as excited as I am! Be sure and leave a comment if you have any ideas for what The Nightingale should include in the great 2019!

God bless you all!

Elizabeth Baillie

I’ve Been Nominated for the Leibster Award! // My answers to award questions

Yay!

Thank you so much Moriah Snell!ย  You’re an awesome friend, and brilliant author!ย  You all should seriously go check out her blogs Books, Braids, and Born Again and Moriah Snell Writes!

So…I’m supposed to answer eleven questions…this might be tricky…

Who is your favorite Tolkien elf?

That’s easy!  Luthien Tinuviel! (the nightingale!)

What is your least favorite song?

Okay, now this one is tough.  Hmmm.  Well–it’s not just one song, it’s whole album of death metal music with a scream vocalist that polished our airstream (long story…), and it’s called As Animals Eat My Insides. No joke.

If you awarded “Worst Book of the Year”, what book would you choose?

Oh golly!  Hmmm…I honestly don’t know!  Most of the books I’ve read have been excellent.  I guess I could say Death Comes to Pemberly though, not because I disliked the storyline–I love the storyline–but it was poorly written.  The author was too pretentious in her style, and left a lot of loose ends.

If you had to be one age forever, what age would you want to be?

Twenty.  Don’t ask.  I have no clue why.

Your worst hair nightmare is….?

Getting a pixie cut. lol!

 Do you listen to Broadway?

ARE YOU KIDDING ME OF COURSE I DO!

Do you have a favorite Star Wars quote? If so, what is it?

No…I don’t. sighs

What author would you recommend?

Two authors!  Charlotte Bronte and J.R.R. Tolkien!

Do you consider prophecies to be cliche? Explain your reasoning.

It really depends on the context.  Sometimes they are, but sometimes they are necessary and alluring.

What do you look for in books and movies?

Clever writing (if book), drama, tension, and a well thought out plot.

What is your opinion on the Liebster Award?

It’s fun!

Mmmkay!  Now I’m supposed to “share eleven facts about me”.  Lez see heah…

  1.   My birthday is today!
  2.   I have been to/lived in over 11 states!
  3.   I have brown hair that I wish was red and curly. (*sigh*)
  4.   I want to be a soprano soloist one day.
  5.   I can sing the entire Phantom of the Opera song, including the high notes, and most of the rest of the soundtrack too.
  6.   I love Jesus.
  7.   I wish I lived in the 1940’s.
  8.   I am co-authoring a book with three other people (one of them is Rhoxie Mans, who nomiated me!)
  9.   I am a legal assistant.
  10.   I play violin and piano.
  11.   I want to live in Scotland one day.

There!  That wasn’t so bad!!

Okay–now here’s the really tough part!  I don’t know eleven other bloggers! So– if you are one of the first eleven people to like and comment on this post, I’ll nominate you!

(please wait until I comment back to consider yourself nominated)

Now here are your questions!

  1.   What are you 5 top favourite books?
  2.   If you had all the money in the world to spend on a car, which would you get?
  3.   What is your hair colour?
  4.   What is your hobby?
  5.   Do you speak more than one language?
  6.   What personality do you wish you had?
  7.   Are you an avid reader?
  8.   What is your favourite breakfast food?
  9.   Which era do you wish you lived in?
  10.   What is your favourite colour?
  11.   Dresses, skirts, pants, or shorts?

I hope you have fun everyone!ย  I sure did!

Poems For Friends

Here begins a series of poems for friends!ย  Each poem will be listed under the elven alias. (:

I hope you enjoy them!

For Arannรค Llachmรฎr

Through many years has our friendship held steadfast,

like a mighty oaken beam or a tall well-wrought mast.

This to is the gift of God,

and you a jewel of God to me blessed;

a flaming jewel of zeal for our Lord.

Together too, we wield the Spirit Sword,

together do we learn the truth in God’s Word,

as iron sharpens iron, we together grown in truth.

As friends we have been in our youth,

I pray we be the same in old age,

’till we meet in Heaven,

at the end of all days.
